About Me
My name is Charlie Fenwick. I am a student at Denison University studying Visual Art and PPE (Philosophy, Politics, Economics). I am also a captain of my University’s squash team.
My recent project is focused on world building based on familiar places that are often overlooked and have a mysterious feel about them. This work will be done by painting using photography and sketching to help bring out the scenes. The work often exists in an urban context, particularly in Baltimore (my hometown) and Granville (where I go to school). This project aligns with my academic and my personal interest in Urban Design and Development.
I pull from a mix of inspiration, ranging from animation backdrops to quotes in books. Many of these initial ideas get brought to life in quick sketches in my sketchbook, something I’ve done since I was a little kid making comics. I also have fallen in love with photography, particularly the feeling I get shooting at night, which started in high school when I would walk and drive around at night looking for potential paintings.
My creative passions are wide and come from animation, photography, film, fiction books, and comedy. Currently, I consider the “final product” of my work to come to life in oil paintings.
I hope to be a self sustaining artist, particularly in painting. I am excited about my current project which is creating scenes that combine imaginative world building with atmospheric spaces.
